🌸 Grow the World’s Most Expensive Spice — Right in Your Backyard
Most people think saffron only comes from overseas…
But the truth is — you can grow it at home.
And once you do… you’ll never look at this spice the same way again.
💰 Why Saffron Is So Valuable
Each saffron flower produces just 3 delicate red threads.
That’s it.
It takes 75,000 flowers to produce just one pound of saffron…
and every single thread is hand-harvested.
That’s why saffron is known as “red gold.”
🙌 Easier to Grow Than You Think
You don’t need a green thumb.
You don’t need perfect soil.
You don’t need experience.
✔ Grows in USDA zones 4–10 (almost anywhere in the U.S.)
✔ Perfect for garden beds, raised beds, or containers
✔ Thrives in well-drained soil — even poor soil
✔ Low water, low maintenance
If you can grow garlic or flowers… you can grow saffron.
⏳ Harvest in Just Weeks — Not Years
This is what surprises most people…
Plant your corms in the fall…
See growth quickly
Watch blooms appear in 6–8 weeks
Harvest your own saffron the SAME season
No waiting years. No guessing.
🌱 Plant Once — Harvest for Years
Saffron corms don’t just grow…
They multiply underground.
That means:
• More flowers each year
• Bigger harvests over time
• A garden that keeps giving back
This isn’t just a purchase — it’s an investment.
🏆 Premium 9–10 cm Corms (This Matters)
Not all saffron corms are the same.
We only ship large, 9–10 cm corms —
the size most likely to produce blooms in the first season.
✔ Carefully selected for performance
✔ Higher success rate for beginners
✔ Grown with quality in mind
⚠️ Important: Limited Fall Planting Window
Saffron is planted once per year.
All pre-orders ship in August (the correct planting time).
We sell out every season — and once they’re gone…
You’ll have to wait until next year.

For three years I've been buying corms from Tara. Last year our family tested a planting in Montana and California. We had a tiny but lovely harvest. When I lifted the bulbs in CA (planted in containers) this spring (March) I found they had tripled! That's a great investment.
So, to celebrate the completion of my 2025 taxes, I just ordered for the 2026 season (100 bulbs) for planting in Montana. I am Saffron happy!
Happy with my crocuses, sadly I think the gophers enjoyed a few as well. Still was able to harvest some.. Ordered more for this fall. Cheaper than traveling to Crete for excellent saffron!
I purchased saffron corms 2 years ago and harvested both years. I do suggest if you plant in the ground to use a row cover because this year the hungry cottontails (or deer?) got most of my saffron harvest before me! Silly critters! But they are easy to grow and just follow the instructions that come with them and you will harvest the first year.
I inherited NO gardening skills whatsoever. Last season I found shesrootedhome and decided to purchase the saffron corms. At the proper time, we planted the 12 corms in a pot and just left them alone. One day, I walked outside and found some green shoots! Checked on them occasionally and saw the beautiful purple blooms! We were unsuccessful at drying the threads but I'm anxious for this year's crop.
I purchased my corms last fall (2025,) but I didn't get them planted soon enough. No flowers last fall, but I have a huge saffron patch growing this year and expect a lovely harvest this fall. I would highly recommend this company!
