Why is Saffron the world’s most expensive spice?
It takes a lot of flowers to make a little bit of Saffron. It is also planted, harvested and processed manually. In the late summer Sativus Crocus (Saffron corms) are planted by hand. Once the flowers bloom, they’re picked and processed by hand.
